Whimsical Music

Whimsical Music (WM) is a record label from Rovaniemi, Finland that operates since 2011. It has strong ties to Dub Flash Records (DFR), and licenses some of their releases to the people over at DFR.

The label is run by Rami Rovaniemi who coordinates all the various releases. The label emphasises quirky electronic music, but with a strong (95%) focus on Dub-music. By January 2025, the label has 37 releases in their list and is adding a couple of new releases every year. 

One special thing about the label is that they structure their release like TV shows. An album is a “season” and a track is an “episode”. Every season consists of 8 episodes. Those episodes are released first as singles, step by step, and when 8 episodes are ready, they are compiled by a season, replacing the individual episodes.

All releases on WM are available as free downloads on Bandcamp and their website. Additionally, there are music videos or at least music visualizers available on their YouTube channel. An overview of their releases can also be found on Discogs.
